First Run in a Long Time!

Soundtrack – The Infamous Stringdusters – Ladies & Gentlemen
The Background

So I haven’t written anything about health and fitness and “turning back my biologic clock” for a long time. The simple reason is that I haven’t done much to help turn back that clock lately. I have not been eating particularly well and although I have still been doing yoga in the mornings, the rest day I ran was way back on the 4th of April!!

The Infamous Stringdusters – Let It Go! and we’re all in for a treat!! (Video)

Infanous Stringdusters

Infanous StringdustersAlabama once sang “If you’re gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band”. I’ll change that and add “if you’re gonna make me happy, you better have a dobro in the band” and a fiddle and banjo wouldn’t  hurt!! Well, The Infamous Stringdusters have a dandy dobro player, Andy Hall, fine fiddler Jeremy Garrett, a bouncy, bombastic?? banjo player in Chris Pandolfi in combination with the guitar of Andy Falco and bass of Travis Book and listening to their latest album Let It Go today made me very happy!! And obviously a lot of other folks Let It Go is No 1 on the Roots Music Report Bluegrass Chart, #8 on the Americana Music Chart and No 3 on the Billboard Charts. After emerging eight years ago, they’ve grown from wunderkids to established stars with chart toping albums and Grammy nominations! Each year they have grown a little more and increased their crossover appeal  The band appears on stages as diverse as Telluride, Grey Fox, Bonnaroo and High Sierra. A quote on their website sums it up well…..

Life’s Soundtrack – The Infamous Stringdusters – We’ll Do It Live

A couple of weeks ago I was listening to a Podcast of the Mountain Stage Show of September 23, 2011. The show featured The Weepies, The Punch Brothers and two bands I really like  by Turtles and The Infamous Stringdusters. The Stringdusters kicked off the show. Now I had listened to and liked The Stringduster’s 2010 release Things That Fly, but that album is on the MP3 Player that is a pain to listen to because you have to hold the headphones in a certain position or you only get sound from one side, so I haven’t heard it for a while! But listening to the set on Mountain Stage I thought boy I have to check that album out again! Anyway the other day I saw that the Stringduster’s had a new release titled We’ll Do It Live. So I quickly put that on the iPod and it became the soundtrack for today’s four mile run. Their music which is a blend of old-timey bluegrass with indie jamgrass is perfect for running. The majority of the songs are uptempo songs with some great picking, which means I can just go with the flow of the music which includes some longish instrumentals! The current line-up for the band includes:

Twang Tuesday – The Infamous Stringdusters

So today I made a brief list of some bluegrass to listen to and listened to some tracks by Josh Williams not bad but not thrilling. Then I listened to a track from the Tiger Maple String Band interesting but I just wasn’t really into the music. So I finally decided to move the the top of the chart and the number one album Things That Fly by The Infamous Stringdusters and I now know why the album is number one great picking, vocals and lyrics usually make a great album and this album has all three! The album is their second following their successful 2007 debut album Fork in the Road,  The band won three awards at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards Ceremony in 2007 including: Emerging Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for Fork in the Road (in a tie with J.D. Crowe & the New South’s album Lefty’s Old Guitar), and Song of the Year for the title track of the album.
