Alone Together 1

So in this date in 1946 two artists who were part of my early years listening to music were born, Dave Mason and Donovan. Here’s what I wrote about these musicians last year……(this year we don’t have nearly is far travel as last year, when we go to Delaware to see my daughter receive her Masters degree from the University of Delaware While she will have her degree at the end of the month she will still have two more years of studying before she can go out in the real world and become a school psychologist!)

Ok so there are two birthdays that stand out to me this morning. The first one is Donovan and the second one Dave Mason, both were born on this date in 1946. Initially, I was going to write about Donovan and for some reason the song that popped into my head and is still spinning around in it is “Happiness Runs” . I guess that’s because I want this weekend to be happy as we travel to Williamsburg for my daughters graduation from The College of William and Mary! Anyway then I thought about Dave Mason and the song “Only You Know and I Know” is now stuck in my head alternating with “Happiness Runs”!  I only hope I don’t think about Bono (1960) or Mother Maybelle Carter (1909) or it will be too crowded in my head to remember all that I have to do before we leave this afternoon!!

Anyway, here’s some background information on Dave Mason,

David Thomas “Dave” Mason (born 10 May 1946) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist from Worcester, who first found fame with the rock band Traffic.[3] In his long career, Mason has played and recorded with many of the era’s most notable pop and rock musicians, including Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Delaney Bramlett, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Fleetwood Mac and Cass Elliot. Mason’s best known song is “Feelin’ Alright”, recorded by Traffic in 1968 and later by many other performers, including Joe Cocker, who had a major hit with the song in 1969. For Traffic, he also wrote “Hole in My Shoe”, a psychedelic pop song that became a hit in its own right. “We Just Disagree”, Mason’s 1977 solo hit written by Jim Krueger, has become a staple of Classic Hits and Adult Contemporary radio playlists.[4][5]

In 2004, Mason was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of Traffic. Full Biography

Now the real reason I posted about Dave Mason is so I could show the marbled vinyl album! So here is some morning music from Dave Mason on his birthday the aforementioned “Only You Know and I Know”! From Youtube:Dave Mason and band perform this great, classic tune live at the Granada Theater in Dallas, TX on February 19, 2010. Filmed with my Canon A630 Powershot and dubbed with HQ audio from my Sony PCM-M10. A little shaky at first, but steady afterward and good close-ups. Youtube Link Happy Birthday Donovan and Dave!!
