Ok so the first time I gave Caffeine and Gasoline by Elliot Randall and the Deadmen a quick listen I wasn’t really thrilled with the album. But after listening to the album on the way back from Forked River the other day and then again this AM, my opinion of the album has risen with each listen!
Elliot Randall grew up in South Carolina and now calls the San Francisco Bay area his home. From his myspace page”
Twenty seven year old country-rock troubadour Elliot Randall is an emerging musical stylist who writes songs that “defy his tender years. He seems to have done it all and has the required levels of hurt and angst that far older songwriters take years to experience.” (Americana UK) Randall’s discerning style has garnered him comparisons to the likes of Ryan Adams and, some of his great musical predecessors like Guy Clark and Gram Parsons.
The band has opened for the likes of Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Lyle Lovett, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Hayes Carll.
On the first listen I really liked the title track and the second track “Oh Miranda”. But on the second and third listen I realized that there’s a lot of good music on this album. Tracks that really stood out include “Good Love” and “Chasin’ My Tail” (which reminds me a lot of early Jack Ingram which to me is a good thing!) and the rocking “Red Velvet Curtains” with a nice guitar solo by bandmate James Deprato. The lead guitar also stands out on the closing track “Judgement Day”. the other Deadmen are Kyle Caprista on drums and Danilo Lopez on bass.
You can check out the album at Amazon! As for me I’m going to check out the first album Take the Fall!
