So I’ve said it many times that I’ve been a Jerry Jeff fan since the first time I heard “Mr Bojangles” and “Ramblin’ Scramblin'” in the late 60’s. Except for the greatest hits type albums and a couple albums I have all of his albums and his music has been rolling around in my head forever! So a when I discovered a while ago that he had released a new collection of songs that he had been singing at concerts I had to order it! The album is Moon Child and it’s collection of really nice JJW music. The highlights for me include a nice cover of Chris Walls’ “The Poet is Not in Today” , a song he wrote for his daughter Jesse’s wedding ” The Wedding Day” and as I listened to the song I thought about my son’s coming wedding and thought they may like it! yeah right! anyway it’s not often that you can stay with an artist through his life from writing about his little girl’s knowing that “She knows her Daddy Sings” through her wedding! After “The Wedding Song” comes two songs about Belize the second one the really nice “Carribean Moon” and then two more love songs “What True Love’s All About” and “The Vows” written for his parent’s anniversary. The album ends with a cover of John Denver’s “Back Home Again”
So at 68 and the Gonzo years well behind him all that’s left is just writing and singing nice songs about his life and loves and as long as he keeps writing and singing them I’ll keep listening!
Here is a song from the album the first song about Belize on the album “Down in Belize”
I love the lines “successful men get what they want, happy men want just what they got“!
