So yesterday I was reflecting on the last 40 or so years of my life and I started the reflection listening to Jerry Jeff Walker‘s “Blue Mood”:
“I’d already turned the light off,
All most gone to sleep,
when a little voice inside me saud
Are you all you thought you’d be”
And I started a little synopsis of the last forty years and at some point I may finish it and post it! But I stuck with the “Blue” theme and fifty songs later I had heard most of the songs on the iPod with Blue as the first word in the title…..I say most because I think the player was going when I was out of the car because many of the songs I did not hear!! Now I won’t bore you with all the tracks but here are the top twelve (maybe) in no particular order:
“Blue” – Joe Crookston
“Blue” – Sonny Rollins
“Blue Eyes” – Laughing Gravy
“Blue Drops of Rain” – Corey Stevens”
“Blue and Lonesome” Robben Ford
“Blue-Green World” – R Carlos Nakai
“Blue Railroad Train” – Jorma Kaukonnen
“Blue Stew” – Paul Thorn
“Blue Tarp BLues” – Sonny Landreth (message to self listen to this album more”
“Blue Train” John Coltrane
“Blue Umbrella” – John Prine – love the chorus”
“Just give me one good reason,
and I won’t ask you anymore
Just give me one extra season,
so I can figure out the other four”
“Blue Wing” – Tom Russell – this one too!
It’s dark in here; can’t see the sky
But I look at this blue wing and I close my eyes
And I fly away beyond these walls
Up above the clouds where there ain’t no fall(unsure of this word)
On a poor man’s dreams.
Here’s Tom Russell and “Blue Wing”
