So on Tuesday I used to listen to bluegrass. I really haven’t done that lately, but tonight I put the iPod on shuffle and chose bluegrass for the genre and these are the six songs that came on………
“Annabelle” – by Northern Lights from the album Another Sleepless Night. Northern Lights is one of those bands that I really like alot and don’t listen to enough! Great picking and vocals!
“Good Time Mountain Man” Terry Baucom from his latest album In a Groove. I’ve been listening to this album a lot lately and will write about it one of these days. Some really good banjo from Baucom on this one!
“I Won’t Be There” from Don Rigsby’s album Empty Old Mailbox
another great voice and some good picking, too!
and from the duo against whom all bluegrass pickin’ is measured Flatt and Scruggs “Flint Hill Special” and as soon as I heard the first notes I knew it was!!
“Under the Influence of Love” Front Range from the album Ramblin’ on My Mind . Another band with some really good songs and picking!
“Shady Grove” Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder another classic from Skagg’s History of the Future album. a fine sound with of course some great vocals and pickin’!
the bonus track or number 7 was another classic – Flatt & Scruggs doing the theme song from “Petticoat Junction” and “there’s Uncle Ed he’s movin’ kinda’ slow, from the Target, Petticoat Target!”
so it was a long day topped off with some good bluegrass….
including this video from Terry Baucom with Michael Cleveland and the Kruger Brothers “Knee Deep in the bluegrass!
